Pipeline Installation Begins in Marshall County

Oct. 10--Some pipe is in the ground and covered with soil in northern Marshall County for the $5.2 billion TransCanada Keystone pipeline that will run through parts of Marshall and Day counties.
That was the word on Thursday from Jeff Raugh, project representative for Keystone. Pipe is in place from North Dakota/South Dakota border south almost to state Highway 10, he said.
Installation is scheduled to continue through at least a good share of November and possibly into December, he said.
"Our target goal for this year is to stop within Day County," Raugh said.
The pipeline will carry crude oil from Alberta, Canada, about 2,200 miles to refineries in Illinois and Oklahoma. The line will pass through 10 eastern South Dakota counties, including Day and Marshall.
Next year, several more crews will be working on the project than this year, Raugh said, and the entire 2,200 miles is expected to be completed in 2009.
"It will be delivering oil at the end of next year," he said.
This year, one crew worked from the international border south to Valley City, N.D., and a second crew worked from Valley City south.
The latter crew, based in Aberdeen, is the group now laying pipe in Marshall County.
