Property owners and others along the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline are invited to hear from experts on landowner alliances and pipeline safety Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Lindsay Community Hall in Lindsay.
Lindsay is halfway between Glendive and Circle on Montana 200.
Keystone XL, a project of Trans Canada, will transport oil from Canadian tar sands to Texas for refining. It is expected to traverse six Eastern Montana counties on a 283-mile route that includes crossing the Milk, Missouri and Yellowstone rivers.
Speakers will include Dave Core of the Canadian Alliance of Pipeline Landowners Associations and Carl Weimer of the Pipeline Safety Trust in Washington state.
Primary landowner concerns are liability, disruption of farm and ranch operations, fair compensation and potential leaks into the water supply.
Northern Plains Resource Council is coordinating with Montana landowners along the route who are interested in negotiating a common agreement with TransCanada. Sunday's meeting is a first step in bringing people together.
