TORONTO — Three men have been arrested and charged in the 2007 shooting death of wealthy Toronto philanthropist Glen Davis, opening a dramatic new chapter in a long-stalled murder mystery.
“This was a lengthy and complex investigation,” said Staff Inspector Brian Raybould of the Toronto Police Homicide squad.
Mr. Davis, 66, was shot to death in the underground parking garage of a Toronto office building in May of 2007. Although two men were spotted on a surveillance video, investigators found themselves stymied. Last month, police announced a $50,000 reward, hoping that it might lead to fresh information that would restart the stalled investigation.
Although police say there was a “business relationship” between Mr. Davis and the three men accused of killing him, Inspector Raybould refused to elaborate. “This matter is before the courts,” he said.

The three accused were arrested this weekend and are scheduled to appear in court later this week. Charged with first-degree murder are 37-year-old Marshall Ross of Toronto, and Ivgeny Vorobiov and Dimitry Kossyrine, both 30, from Richmond Hill.
Police said at least one of the accused men appears in a surveillance video taken in the underground garage where Mr. Davis was killed. Insp. Raybould refused to say whether the reward offered last month played a role in the arrests.
Mr. Davis, who inherited a fortune from his father, was best known as a generous supporter of the environmental movement, giving to groups that included the Sierra Club and the World Wildlife Fund. His circle of friends included Green Party Leader Elizabeth May. Mr. Davis was the antithesis of the flashy millionaire – he often rode the subway, and played down his philanthropy. The attack that killed him was not the first attempt on his life – in 2005, he was assaulted by a man with a baseball bat outside his Toronto office.
Police have said that there is a connection between the 2005 attack and Mr. Davis's murder two years later, but would not elaborate.
