The smaller the global supply of oil gets, the more CO2 has been emitted and the more climate change will have advanced. This leads to more interest in the tar sands—because the profit margin goes ever higher the fewer alternatives there are for petroleum. Without Peak Oil bearing down on humanity, no economical reason would exist to produce this energy intensive, low-output petrol.

OTTAWA -- The energy and banking industries spurred a 5.8-per-cent
surge in Canadian third-quarter operating profits to a record high
$67 billion, Statistics Canada reported Thursday. At least one

CALGARY -- Bruce Power LP, operator of Canada's largest nuclear plant in western Ontario, has signed a letter of intent to buy some assets from Energy Alberta Corp., the private Calgary-based company that had planned to build a nuclear reactor in northern Alberta.

As part of the transaction, Bruce Power, which is majority owned by Calgary-based pipeline giant TransCanada Corp., will acquire exclusive rights to use CANDU technology in Alberta.

Nov. 21 (Bloomberg) -- TransCanada Corp. will seek approval for a C$983 million ($996 million) natural-gas pipeline project to increase access to production in northwestern Alberta needed by Canadian oil-sands producers.

A permit for the North Central Corridor project will be filed today with the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board for the 300-kilometer (186-mile) pipeline and associated facilities, TransCanada said in a statement. The company's pipeline system already is the largest in Canada.

CALGARY – A TransCanada Corp. (TSX: TRP) subsidiary is seeking permission to build a 300-kilometre natural gas pipeline in Alberta at an estimated cost of $983 million.

The North Central Corridor pipeline is designed to carry gas to ``growing intra-Alberta markets resulting largely from increased oilsands development," the company stated Wednesday.

TransCanada said Nova Gas Transmission's application to the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board comes after 11 years of consideration of the line.
