Oct. 10--Some pipe is in the ground and covered with soil in northern Marshall County for the $5.2 billion TransCanada Keystone pipeline that will run through parts of Marshall and Day counties.

That was the word on Thursday from Jeff Raugh, project representative for Keystone. Pipe is in place from North Dakota/South Dakota border south almost to state Highway 10, he said.

Both the national Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) Union and the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) claim Harper continues to ignore Canadian national energy security, and the jobs pouring out of the country.

EDMONTON - Actress Neve Campbell toured the Fort McMurray oilsands this week and met with leaders of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and the Mikisew Cree First Nation.

"I'm horrified by the pace and scale of development in the tar sands, and the weak response by our federal and provincial governments," Campbell said in a news release today.

CALGARY -- Pipeline projects in Canada need timely government decisions, said Brenda Kenny, the president of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association.

In speech in Calgary Wednesday, she said the penalty for delays is cost overruns and uncertainty.

EDMONTON - The $135 million upgrade of the former Athabasca Northern rail line to Fort McMurray is 75 per cent complete and CN has commitments from oilsands customers to ship sulphur and petroleum coke to Asia, executive vice-president Jim Foote said today.

Coming the other way will be construction materials and diluent, a petroleum product used to thin out bitumen so it can to move through pipelines, Foote said.
